recommended gear-FIRE STARTERS
Cotton ball and petroleum jelly
A cotton ball dipped in petroleum jelly can be lit with a spark and will burn for approx. 5 min. Great for building fires in the winter or when your tinder needs to dry out a little.
CRISCO
Crisco makes a heck of a survival product because it's flammable and you can eat it. You can use some string to make a candle wick or rub on a cotton ball to get a bigger flame. Burns clean and bright.
Magnesium/ferro rod
A magnesium fire starter has an attached ferro rod and magnesium particles can be scraped into a pile that will light even when wet. Ferro rod can be used over and over. Only drawback: magnesium can be difficult to scrape and wind will carry particles away if not careful.
